STAR-H understands that, as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) are used for more diverse and extreme applications, their communications requirements also become diverse and complex. We carry a range of antenna solutions specialized for the tight operational and mounting requirements of UAV aircraft, and are constantly expanding our line as we realize potential new uses.
STAR-H offers a suite of high-gain log-periodic and Yagi antennas. Currently, our designs are popularly offered as low-cost printed circuit board (PCB) units that can be produced in virtually any quantity and are easily scalable and customizable. These designs are simple solutions for commercial and low-cost applications where highly directional antenna patterns are required and large antennas are unfeasible or undesirable.
The Yagi antenna is popularly available in the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band for directional network coverage, but our specialized high-gain designs are easily scalable to other frequencies and are not limited to PCB production.
Typical Applications
- Directional communication links
- Test and measurement setups
- Wireless infrastructure and backhaul links

STAR-H has developed and patented a family of Low Profile Antennas that are an inexpensive monopole and dipole type antenna replacement that offer virtually equivalent performance to bulkier and inconvenient alternatives. These antennas are designed to be useful in a broad range of applications while also meeting the stringent requirements of some, such as weight and volume constraints. From office WiFi to aircraft tactical links, STAR-H's low profile antennas have you covered.
Several standard frequencies are offered, but these antennas are also scalable to practically any frequency, even including AM Broadcast. This provides the simplicity of a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solution while also enabling flexibility for unique requirements. For information regarding a specific frequency or scaling to a frequency not in this catalog, please submit a Product Inquiry.

The STAR-H NVIStar™ vehicular HF antenna is a low-profile, dual vertical loop system mounted above the roof of a vehicle. Designed for TOC, HMMWV, and other mobile command post applications, it replaces the 16- and 32-foot whip antennas with a dual loop that is only 36 inches tall. It provides line-of-sight HF communications in both NVIS and long range modes.
The standard version offers a single feedpoint for use with HF radios with integrated tuners, such as the AN/VRC-100. A high efficiency version is also available, which includes automatic microprocessor tuning circuitry at the antenna for optimal performance.
The antenna is primarily made from a fiberglass composite for minimum weight and mounts on a standard Army antenna flange mount, such as found on HMMWV communication shelters. With the optional low angle kit, a remote control switch at the operator allows changing between NVIS and longer range communications with ease.
Features
- Low profile, electrically small elements - only 36 inches above roofline
- Effective pattern for reliable short and long range communications
- Rugged, adaptable design
- Flexible elements
- Automatic tuning system for optimal gain on the active frequency
- Compatibility with the AN/VRC-100 and most other HF radios
- User selectable models including both low angle and NVIS
- Proven NVIS communications over 200 miles, greater distances using low angle
- Expandable antenna available for improved stationary efficiency
- Only extends 2 inches above the roofline when folded
- Quickly removable in 15 minutes
- Compatible with HMMWV communication shelter antenna mounts
